Living in Spain

Spain myths

If you've recently moved to Spain, you're sure to agree with the fact that not everything you heard about?the country and its customs?is strictly true. For example, a common misconception is that it's always hot and sunny here, but unfortunately, it can get rather cold in winter and rain doesn't just fall on the plain, it falls on the Costa del Sol, just like it does everywhere else!
?
Here are some more Spain-related myths:
?
Bullfighting is Spain's national sport
?
Wrong! It's actually futbol (football)! Technically, bullfighting is not a sport and although you will find bullrings throughout many parts of the country, it is not considered by the Spanish to be as important as football.
?
Sangria is Spain's drink of choice
?
Wrong again! It's mainly the tourists who enjoy this alcoholic tropical punch, hence the ridiculous prices in bars during the summer months. The Spanish prefer lager or wine when they're in a bar or restaurant.
?
Flamenco is popular all over Spain
?
Flamenco is an Andalucian art form, a mixture of guitar, dancing, vocals, hand claps and powerful lyrics, which spread to Madrid and Barcelona, however, you won't find much flamenco in other parts of the country.
