British Consul Opens Age Care Charity Shop
The President of Age Care Association, Charles Betty, was delighted to welcome Steve Jones, the British Consul, when he arrived to open the new Charity Shop in Las Jarales, Calahonda.
Mr Jones remarked that he was most impressed with the shop which is run by Beverley Morland and her team of volunteers, in particular he commented on the eye-catching window display which was dressed by Jackie, another volunteer. Steve Jones went on to thank the volunteers and helpers at the opening for all the work which they do to help English-speaking residents on the Costa del Sol.
Mr Jones mentioned the fact that Age Care Association are always in need of more volunteers; people to help in the shop, to drive elderly people to medical appointments, to shop for people or just to spend time with those who are housebound, or to help relieve a carer for a couple of hours a week.
Also urgently needed are those people with knowledge of Spanish who would be prepared to interpret for pensioners in various situations, the Association also needs people with nursing, caring or counselling experience.
The British Consulate works closely with Age Care Association as well as various other agencies on the coast.
After cutting the ribbon, Mr Jones joined volunteers and customers in the shop, where he was joined by Mr Bruce McIntyre, now a patron of Age Care Association. Those present were able to enjoy a buffet which was sponsored by Banco Halifax Hispania, other sponsors present included Party Party, Harley?s Bar, Monty?s Furniture and Alicia El Zoco.
Age Care Association would like to thank all those who helped sponsor this event and in particular the La Cala Lions Club and the Gemini and Lafayette Masonic Lodges for their previous and ongoing support. Thanks also go to Don and Lesley Cameron who have worked so hard with their team of volunteers to get the shop up and running.
If you think you could help, have some time to spare and would like to become a volunteer please contact Age Care Association. If you are in need of help or would like to speak to someone in confidence please also contact Age Care Association on 691 761 088/655903182 or visit our website at www.agecarecosta.org
