England team director Andy Flower heaped praise on his players for their nerveless display under intense pressure after the triumphant climax to their ICC World Twenty20 campaign. England maintained their scintillating form to complete a thumping seven-wicket victory over Australia at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Flower was delighted with the way his players took their top form into the intense arena of a world final against their arch rivals.

"All the support staff and the players have put a lot of sweat and heartache into being the best they can be and we have proved that we were the best in the tournament." Flower said after the match. Flower pointed to an impressive bowling display in the final and the contribution of the top order throughout the tournament as well as the vocal support from England fans.

"It was nice to hear our team singing loudly during the anthems and then it was great to hear our supporters and watch the support in the crowd," he said. "We have great supporters - they follow us everywhere. They were even with us in Bangladesh on our previous tour and we are very proud and appreciative of the English public."

But after claiming his first world title, Flower already has one eye on the future. He added: "I can't help thoughts moving to the future and, in all three forms of the game, we have a lot of hard work and improvement to do if we want to be consistently successful. I think we'll enjoy this win, like we should. It's the first time an English side has taken home a World Cup trophy. But we'll move on fairly quickly back into hard work and looking for constant improvement."

"It's been a great year. We've loved it. It is a really privileged position we have here representing England and if we can do anything close to this in the next 12 months we'll be very proud again."
