Lounging around

Lounging around

Whether you live in a traditional Spanish style house, a modern apartment? or a rural retreat, why not create a new warmer look for your home by adding a touch of rustic chic to the lounge or dining room! Just follow our simple steps and get some inspiration for a typical Iberian feel.

?

Flooring

If you?re not a fan of terracotta tiling, cover the floor with sea grass matting, this is a hard wearing alternative to carpet which will give the room a warmer look and feel.

?

Orange walls

There?s nothing more Espa?ol than an orange wall. It?ll add warmth, freshness and personality to any otherwise dull living space.

?

Mirror and picture frames

To create a solid, traditional look, treat all mirror and picture frames with a crackle glaze. Apply two coats of cream paint then varnish.

?

Lighting

Look for light fixtures with wooden batons ? think modern chandeliers! These will perfect against the orange walls.

?

Coffee table

Trawl antique shops and the stalls at local markets to find a traditional style wooden coffee table. Alternatively, use old wooden floorboards and treat with oak wax for your own more personal touch in the room.

?

Seating areas

Brighten up dull sofas with plum or pink coloured throws to blend with the orange walls. You can do the same with the cloth for your dining table too.

?

Windows

Dressing the windows with cream coloured tab top curtains will add a slightly modern twist to the traditional look and feel of the room and will give it a more homely feel , particularly if you currently use a blind.

?

Finishing touches

Decorate the chairs and sofas with tartan cushions, collect terracotta coloured pottery and display on shelves as well as adding bundles of twisted branches or pinecones to bowls and vases to complete the look.
