Living in Spain certainly has its benefits ? the sun, the sea, a healthy diet, beautiful scenery and of course the relaxed lifestyle. Gone are the grey, drizzly days you spent in the UK, living to work and having to crank the radiators up high to stop the icicles forming on the (inside of the) windows!
With mild winters and clear blue skies for a good majority of the year, it?s no wonder so many Britons have made the leap and opted for a better quality of life in Spain, bringing their worldly possessions, pets and partners with them! Not to mention selling their properties in the UK and purchasing dream homes in the sun.
If you have your own house, apartment, villa or finca here in Spain, why not brighten it up with uplifting d?cor that will reflect the warm, sunny climate of the Costa del Sol!
Follow our tips for an authentic Spanish feel in your home:
- Keep rooms uncluttered.
- Combine vibrant colours (such as red, orange, terracotta, peach, pink, blue, green and turquoise) with textured walls for a rustic look.
- Opt for simple furniture designs in dark or distressed wood or wrought iron. Candlesticks give any room a mystical feel as well as Moroccan-style lanterns. These can be found on market stalls along the coast.
- Use patterned tiles in the kitchen.
- Spanish homes don?t tend to have carpeted floors so opt for hardwood, stone, ceramic or terracotta flooring.
- Spread rugs and mats around the floor to keep your feet warm during the winter months. Choose colours which compliment the rustic walls and of course the flooring.
- Colourful paintings, tapestries and textile wall hangings can instantly transform a dull room into an interesting, more inviting living space.
- Pottery, statues and religious ornaments are also used to decorate typically Spanish homes.
